Shotover Engineering stocks the largest range of snow chains in Queenstown Lakes.

With every pair of chains sold from our premises, we give the added service of instruction on fitting and test fit to vehicles to check the size.

We stock snow chain tensioners or bungies which are used to take up the slack in ladder chains. They come in three sizes; car, 4×4 or bus.

We also stock common sizes of plain ladder chains for buses and trucks. This includes Dual Wheel Chains.

We repair chains as well as stocking a large range of chain parts.

Pewag Quickfit Diamond Pattern Chain (Red Box)

  • Quick and easy to fit
  • Suited for cars & small 4x4s, ideal for the local area and accessing the ski fields
  • Diamond pattern of chain across the tyre provides an almost continuous point of contact between the chain/tyre and road. This minimises the slip and then grip that can be experienced with a straight crossbar chain/ladders.

  • Suited for larger 4x4s & utes, ideal for local area and accessing the ski fields

  • Quick and easy to fit
  • Suited for low profile tyres and vehicles with minimal clearance.

Icebreaker Ladder Chains (Black Bag)

  • Often require bungy – additional $40-$57.50 per pair
  • Ideally suited to deep snow (and/or mud) eg unplowed roads or farm work
  • Medium and heavy-duty chains available
  • Note: This is a softer chain than used on the Pewag quckfits and will wear down if driven on plowed roads.
